THE HUMAN MICROBIOME: Innovators

THE EDEN PROJECT: Invisible You

Combining the world of art and science, the Eden Project created an exhibition called "Invisible You" for people to view. With the wide diversity of the human microbiome, many different artists come together to make representations of the little microorganisms on our body. HUMAN MICROBIOME PROJECT

The human microbiome project is a fund/organisation researching the human microbiome. The goal is to sequence as many microbes on the body as possible and to find corrolations between them and human health. Jonathan Eisen

Jonathan Eisen runs a lab at UC Davis in Northern Claifornia. His research includes: (directly from site) [44]

  • The genomic basis for the origin and evolution of new functions.

  • The ecology and evolution of microbial communities.

  • The co-evolution of microbes and their carrying vessels (i.e., hosts).

  • Variation in “evolvability.”

  • The development of phylogeny-driven computational tools to analyze genomic and metagenomic sequence data.

He has spoken at a Ted Talks and recieved the Benjamin Franklin Award (Bioinformatics) in 2011.
